SMS Engagement: Creating an SMS Newsletter
An SMS newsletter, just like an email newsletter, is a reliable customer engagement tool.
You can use it to keep your business top-of-mind by sharing relevant promotions and industry advice with customers. Here's how to make one.
1. Build Your Subscriber List
An SMS subscriber list is a group of contacts who’ve opted in to receive your texts.
What's the fastest way to build your list?
Take the customers in your existing email list and drop them a line about your new SMS newsletter. The engaged contacts who read your email will most likely be interested in receiving updates via text message as well—especially if you offer a 10% discount off a purchase or other exclusive offers in exchange for opting in.
You can also advertise your subscriber list using a keyword, like SUBSCRIBE. Customers text the keyword and then become added to your subscriber list group.
SMS subscribers convert at a higher rate and stay subscribers longer than email, so it's worth it to build your list.
2. Consistency Is Key
Email and SMS marketing should feed into each other to make the most impact.
Follow up your email announcements with SMS alerts (and vice versa) to make sure your offers are never missed. Sending your SMS newsletter the same time as your email newsletter also gives you a consistent schedule to follow, so you don't accidently spam customers with text updates.
Just make sure you offer some exclusive content in your SMS newsletter, so email subscribers have a reason to pay attention to both. This could be in the form of SMS discount codes or behind-the-scenes content.
3. Schedule in Advance
Save time by creating your SMS newsletters in advance.
“Scheduled Messages” is a Text Request feature that lets you type messages now, and schedule them to send at later times and dates. You can see all your scheduled SMS newsletters in the View Scheduled Messages tab of your Group Messages.
This helps you stay ahead on planning, and ensures your messages are properly spaced out to have the most impact.
