We give up to 20 families a night a place to stay while their kids are being treated at Erlanger hospital. To provide these families with the best experience that feels like home, we depend on our volunteers—who are basically the heartbeat of Ronald McDonald House. Every day, they come and help out with everything from staffing our front desk, to supervising family rooms in the hospital. Because of that, over 600 volunteers are on our list to staff the front desk, and 1,000 volunteers are on our list to help with events.

That's a ton of people we constantly need to reach out to. And if someone cancels a shift, our team has to be prepared to reach out to all of them fast. Without these volunteers we wouldn’t be able to run our programs and events, and that’s why we use Text Request to schedule their shifts.

With Text Request’s user friendly dashboard, our volunteer coordinator can text volunteers to fill empty shift slots anywhere at anytime, and typically get a response within 90 seconds. If the volunteers have any questions, she can also shoot them a helpful link or picture of where they need to meet.

Since we have four different programs that don’t always take place in the house—including our family room, Care Mobile, and scholarship program—it’s incredibly helpful to have a communication system like Text Request that brings everyone together.

Last year we sent out a massive text from our CEO to our volunteers thanking them for all they do. Text Request made it an easy thing to do, but the 30 seconds it took meant the entire world to all our volunteers.

Our volunteers also need to feel like they’re welcomed as family at the house, and Text Request fast communication helps us do just that by always keeping them in the loop.
