SMS Marketing: Personalize Promotions to Increase Revenue
Customers spend more, refer more, and report higher satisfaction when they get personalized messages.
It’s tough to start 1-to-1 conversations with everybody, but here's how to personalize mass messages to accomplish the same goals.
1. What "Personalization" Is
A lot of marketing and sales pros think personalization is using someone’s first name in the message.
That’s a good first step, but it’s not all. Personalization means customizing your communication to a customer’s unique experiences. It uses past interactions, purchases, and other unique details to send more relevant messages.
Sound complicated? It can be, but a few simple ideas are easy to implement and pack a huge punch.
Add contacts to groups for easy segmenting—could be based on their location, products purchased, or any category that makes sense to you
Use Custom Fields to keep track of a contact’s unique details
Create a Custom Merge text—which uses a spreadsheet to send a Mass Text with customizable fields that allow you to personalize each message to the individual receiving it
We’re happy to help you with this, just ask.
2. Opportunities to Text
You don’t have to be selling something to personalize your texts.
Selling is great, and most businesses see a huge return when texting for promotions, but it’s not your only option. It’s also common and effective to send personalized group messages for things like:
Scheduling new appointments with past customers
Asking for online reviews and feedback
Reminding people to pay their bills
Sharing important company updates
And yes, for marketing products and services, too
3. Tracking Your Success
The goal of these messages is to increase engagement that ultimately increases revenue.
Money earned from sending texts is a great metric to track. You can also look at text message performance compared to other channels like email or social media.
A few other metrics to watch include responses, opt outs, and other actions completed—like if your text prompted them to pay their bill, leave a review, or refer a friend.
Tracking doesn’t need to be complex, but you can only improve something after you begin measuring it, so it’s important to measure your messages’ performance and look for ways to improve.
